Guilderland Police Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Course

What is RAD.?

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. The RAD System is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training. RAD. is not a Martial Arts program. The course is taught by Guilderland Police officers who are nationally certified RAD.

How Long Is The RAD Course?

The course is a total of 12 hours long and is divided into three, four hour sessions.

Session 1: Students are involved in discussion of risk reduction strategies, and acquaintance rape mentality, the continuum of survival, defensive strategies and the basic principals of defense. The pros and cons of defensive weaponry, how to develop a defensive mindset, recognizing vulnerable locations, and utilizing personal weapons will be discussed.

Session 2: Participating students will begin the process of hands on training.

Session 3: Students will participate in "Simulated assault" scenarios at 100% full contact with the RAD instructors, who wear state of the art protective gear specifically designed for the training.  THIS IS NOT A MARTIAL ARTS PROGRAM!

Who Are The Instructors? The students are instructed by and Officers Nick Ingle and Guiliana Iannuzzi who are certified RAD Instructors.

How Much Does Cost To Take The Course? This is a free program for Guilderland residents. Non-resident are welcome however a there is a fee. This course costs as much as $150 elsewhere.  You may take it as often as you wish.
