Stay On The
Line!
The Guilderland P.B.A. reminds you that dialing 911 accidentally
results in police being dispatched to your residence or business.

Should you dial 911 accidentally - DON'T HANG UP - please stay on the line to speak to the 911 operator and tell them you dialed in error. Police will still be dispatched to confirm.
Guilderland Police Communications Division
In
1971, the Town of Guilderland established the Emergency Control Center in
Guilderland. Civilian dispatchers were hired to dispatch the town ambulance
and fire department. Police calls prior to 1972 were turned over the the
State Police to handle, as the Guilderland Town Police had yet to be
established. Over the past 30 years the Guilderland Communications Division
has evolved from a just a console and a telephone to a sophisticated
emergency center complete with three state of the art dispatch consoles,
Enhanced 9-1-1, and computer aided dispatch system connected to many other
Capital District agencies including the homeland security terrorism
information.
The Communication Division members are primarily responsible for answering
incoming calls to the communications center and dispatching the proper
agency to the scene whether it be emergency or non emergency. Dispatchers
are required to take an 2 week Emergency Telecommunication Course to become
certified, as well as Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) school where they are
certified to handle and dispatch emergency medical calls, as well as give
emergency medical instructions while emergency crews are on their way.
Dispatchers must also become certified to operate many computer systems to
get access to various law enforcement networks including New York State
Police Information Network (NYSPIN), and Division of Criminal Justice
Services (DCJS).
