The American Red Cross Babysitter's Handbook's are provided.

The American Red Cross Babysitter's Handbook is provided on the day of the class. A $9.75 book fee is charged. In addition to the book, course completion cards are given.

Guilderland Police Babysitter Training Course

 

 

The Guilderland Police Department is offering The American Red Cross Babysitter's Training Course which is taught by two officers who are certified instructors Sgt. Gary Lee and Officer Carl Duda. The hour course is available to those ages 11 and up.

 

 

Basic care such as diaper changing and feeding are also taught as well as basic first aid techniques are learned from managing basic scrapes and bruises to life threatening emergencies such as choking victim and rescue breathing.

 

 

 

Additionally, students are taught all other aspects of babysitting including decision making, ways to negotiate with children, settle arguments, encourage positive behavior, how to guide children in safe play to choose safe and age-appropriate toys and games, how to handle bedtime issues, and how to find a safety-related problem, remove or limit it, then report it.


The Guilderland Police Babysitter Training Course is usually held at the Guilderland Public Library at 2400 Western Ave, however other arrangements can
be made for other locations. Interested persons should sign up for the class at the library, or group leaders can write a letter requesting a course to the Chief of Police.

The course is free, however there is a book fee of $9.75 payable on the day of the class. Students will
receive a course completion card to show to their prospective employers.
